Cookie Happiness with NYC Baker, Brittany Jefferys

I saw NYC baker and performer Brittany Jefferys' cookies on Instagram and instantly knew I wanted to collaborate with her on our 2019 Holiday Gift Guide as cookies were our theme.  I loved her work (I mean, she took our botanicals from our packaging and recreated them ON COOKIES [see below] in addition to custom making about 20 different types of cookies for me per a huge list I gave her - oh, and she had a week to do it), her work ethic and her artistry so much I wanted to learn more about her - 

When did you start baking?

I have always loved to bake.  My nana was famous for her chocolate chip cookies and blueberry pie (my dad’s favorite).  When I was little I would make cookie dough and hide in my room and eat it raw until I had a tummy ache, haha!  But the business came about after I had been baking for my co-workers at a restaurant I was working at and one of them said: ”Brit we love that you bake for us but maybe you should start selling this stuff,it’s so good!”  And here we are!

You’re such an amazing artist!  Have you always liked to paint?

I studied art all through my high school years.  If you gave me a writing utensil and a piece of paper when I was a little kid it would keep me busy for hours!  I was in my own little world when I was drawing!

What's your favorite thing to bake?

Hmmm..that’s a tough one.  I actually love baking bread even though I don’t do it very often.  I sort of have a new favorite thing to bake every year.  This year I’ve been very focused on my sugar cookies.  Last year it was pies and macarons, who knows what it’ll be next year!

What's your favorite part about the baking process?

Honestly...the painting and design! When I get to design a cookie for a client or, even better, get to come up with my own design, it brings me such joy.  I also love how full circle baking is - I get asked to bake something, I bake it, decorate it and then I get to see the biggest smile on my client’s face.  It's an amazing feeling!

Would you ever want to open a bakery?

Ya know a lot of people ask me that.  My mom even told me recently that my dad said he’d love to help me open one.  However, I am still madly in love with performing even though I don’t get to do it very often.  Maybe a bakery is in my future, but right now performing is still my #1!

Where can people order from you?

I currently take orders through Instagram!  All of my work is custom so there’s not really a catalog of cookie designs to choose from.  But I love working with clients on the exact design they imagine and making it come to life!
